Import of this commodity was previously restricted due to outbreaks of Lumpy Skin Disease. In addition, as a condition of their Safe Food for Canadians licence, all importers of pistachios and pistachio containing products will be required to show proof that these products do not originate from Iran in order to be accepted into Canada. Shipments will be subjected to a hold and test for\u00a0<em>Salmonella<\/em>\u00a0or refused entry if importers do not provide this proof. The new version of the certificate includes updated conditions applying to the risk of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in unpasteurized milk.<\/p><p>Specifically, unpasteurized milk must originate from a state that hasn\u2019t reported HPAI in ruminants in the previous 30 days. There will be a 3-month transition period ending July 22, 2025, when either the previous or the new version of the certificate will be accepted for import into Canada.<\/p><p>Information on HPAI testing in livestock can be found on the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service webpage. This provides immediate relief to a broad cross-section of Canadian businesses that must rely on U.S. inputs to support their competitiveness as well as to entities integral to Canadians\u2019 health and safety, such as hospitals, long-term care facilities and fire departments.
