Director, Food Safety

Ranjeet Klair, Senior Advisor, Food Safety, has over 20 years of industry experience working with Canadian, US and global food retailers, production plants, and certification bodies in food safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. Throughout her career, Ranjeet has implemented and led food safety initiatives and regulatory compliance of major retailers and held manufacturing plant positions in QA/QC, food testing, HACCP implementation, and downstream customer relations (such as M&M and Subway). In the retail segment, Ranjeet served as Supplier Food Safety and Compliance Manager for Walmart Canada and where she implemented supplier food safety, product recall, product labelling compliance and perishable distribution center CFIA compliance. She was the Canada Lead for launching GFSI requirements for WM private label suppliers. She also managed product recall, supervised global product testing programs, and liaised across international food markets (Japan, China, Thailand, Australia, and the US) to ensure that imported food products met CFIA and FDA requirements.

Ranjeet has held roles as Senior Manager of Food Safety and QA where she implemented a Food Safety Quality Management System under FSEP program CFIA, and wrote and implemented BRC issue 6 standard for the plant. In managing supplier compliance, she gained knowledge of regulations in Central America, Haiti, U.A.E. and Japan and achieved BRC certification. As the Director of Regulatory Affairs at Sobeys Inc., she led a team of Regulatory Affairs Managers and developed cooperative relationships with FDA, CFIA, Health Canada and other regulatory authorities. Ranjeet also touched on the pharmacovigilance side of compliance with Sobeys Compliments brand Supplements, HABA and no-prescriptive drugs compliance. Serving as Lead Auditor and Technical Advisor at International Certification Body, SAI Global Assurance Services, Ranjeet was a subject matter expert for food, non-food, third party audits; a technical advisor for GMP, HACCP, SQF, BRC, IFS retail food store program; and program manager for CanadaGAP and ISO 17025, 17020, 17065, 22000, and FSSC22000. She also worked closely with Canadian and US legislation, notably the US Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) Safe Food for Canadians Act, and completed audits of over 200 food factories across North America. With the legalization of marijuana in Canada, Ranjeet contributed to HC consultation of Canada’s MMPR and ACMPR regulations discussion; helped small LPs in Canada with application, writing SOPs, hiring and training QAPs; and assisted a manufacturer in the application for and build of CBD cookie-production facility.

As Global Director of Food Safety & Quality Assurance with a global importer of preserved fruits and vegetables, Ranjeet was responsible for overseeing the global sourcing of preserved/acidified, fresh fruits and vegetables, including that from India, China, Vietnam, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, US, and Canada, and managed compliance of food safety for FOODS produced for US, Canada, and Europe in countries like India, China, Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, Tunisia, and Netherlands.

Ranjeet holds a Master of Science degree in Food Sciences, Master of Global Food Law (Jurisprudence) degree, and a Bachelor of Applied Science and certification in International Food Laws and Regulations. Along with completing a Certification program for International Food Laws and Regulations, she has completed a latest degree in May 2020. She is a BRC, FSSC22000, HACCP, PCQI, FSVP trainer and BRC, SQF, FSSC, ISO 22000, Gluten-free, GMP, HACCP, and CanadaGAP lead auditor. As an influential, knowledgeable speaker in food industry, she has been a keynote speaker at the SAI Global Food Safety Symposium and presented on challenges, benefits of GFSI for small food manufacturers.

Ranjeet believes in building relationships based on openness, knowledge sharing and create continuous trust on manufacturing sites and practices. She is dedicated to staying abreast of regulations and legislations to support customers, mitigate emerging food safety risks, and improve the overall safety and quality of the food supply chain.
